Callum Field-Mullins is back for a  Saturday night opens in the coming weeks and speaking to some of the local trainers about their runners. From his three profiled runners last week, Maree Champion (11-10) and Ninja Kerry (6-4) both romped up with 11-2 chance Soul Focus finishing second.

A return for open racing at Hove produced some eye catching performances. Droopys by Amile winning by 6 lengths in his Dogs 515 heat drawing 4 again for the final with the other heat winner coming from Olympic winner Ninja Kerry, drawn one trap outside Nathan Hunts finalist and should set up for an interesting battle. Other notable performances came from two of Seamus Cahill’s puppies in Maree Champion a calc 29.25 along with Droopys Clue recording 29.26 on their English debuts and one more from Derek Knights Puppy Derby Finalist Clona Uriel also sparking up a 29.28 on his return to his home track!

This week however follows with the Dogs 515 final, and multiple open races building up to the Brighton Belle and Seasons Scaffolding Puppy Cup but we’ve decided to take a different angle on Hove’s other mixed distance race card.

The first however takes a different route as we look into the exhilarating Richard Rees dog owned by the ‘Legacy Racing Syndicate’, Kilara Ivy only ‘March 21’ has been setting the Hove track a light for weeks recording 16.29 as her best run.

Although a few trials have set her apart from a few on the track and in the kennel, Charlie Rees had this to say on her, “She’s done everything right in her trials, and we will definitely learn more from her Saturday in a bigger company, but sprinting isn’t the aim with her.”

Charlie also had said that Molly Maid in trap 1 would be her main danger, however being in 2 might help her cause despite being seeded middle, as with the early she’s shown in her contrasting trials, she could cut the bend on Seamus’ runner.

To follow on is another sprinter, one which I think trainer Roy Peckham will be very excited about having in his kennel and it’s the 3rd and final runner Early Knight in race 10. Recently transferring from Imperial Kennels, he’s shown good early pace to most tracks he has visited, Romford more notably with 3.70 and 3.69 sectionals.

Roy said: “He really is a lovely dog and were very lucky to have him. He’s settled in really nicely considering the arrival was only two weeks ago, he had a look at Hove last week and wasn’t far off other kennel companion Clonkil Blaze. I he comes away he will have every chance with trap five being vacant.”

The last of our ones to watch for is Brinkleys Syd trained by Crayford handler Tom Levers, only having outings at the track since coming over from Pat Buckleys’ kennel.

Tom said: “After coming off quite sore from the last run at Oxford we gave him six weeks off and had originally had the KAB Maiden Derby in sights. However, after trialling well on Mondays trial session we are just looking at seeing how he goes, as the 515 would suit him very well”

Tom is also known to have some concern about Robert Emery’s Finulagh Magic being drawn outside in six as he frequently traps from one and two. . Despite his reservations, Levers thinks a lot of the dog and given the good times posted in Ireland, there is no doubt that he has some ability.

We’ll all know a lot more by 9.29 this evening
