Stephen Caile enjoyed an unusual “double” success at Newcastle on Saturday night when two of his youngsters dead-heated to share the spoils in an A3 contest.
Crooks Emporio took an early lead, but he didn’t have to look to far over his shoulder to catch sight of his kennelmate Highview Knight in hot pursuit and the judge could not separate the pair at the line, the pair finishing three and a half lengths clear of Ravenvue Lloyd in 29.07 for the 480 metres.
Both dogs are by Iso Octane, Crooks Emporio being a June 2013 whelp out of Highview Idol and Highview Knight an August 2013 out of Highview Horizon and were bred by Patrick Merryman at County Offaly in Ireland from who Caile has been buying his greyhounds for 30 years.
The trainer said: “I just loved that. They are a couple of nice youngsters that are going well. I have been contracted to Newcastle for a year now and I am looking to get a better class of dog to help me get more runners on the big nights.”
That was the only time the runners gave the judge at hard time on the night for he was forced to declare another dead-heat later in the night after a frantic finish to the A2 that saw less than a length between the first four. He couldn’t split Queenies Maverik and Emmas Star and Crragh Global and Romeo Fantastico were only a short head and a neck behind the dead-heaters.
