Businessman Richard Codd has failed in an attempt to lease Peterborough Stadium.
Codd said: “I made an approach to Richard Perkins with an offer to lease the stadium. I believe the place still has potential and that once the current situation resolves itself, it could be back to being a profitable stadium. Myself and my business partner were prepared that it might take six months, but things will eventually get back to normal
“My plan was to offer a six figure sum per year, and for a five year deal. It was a very amicable discussion, but Mr Perkins said that not only weren’t they prepared to lease the place, they weren’t prepared to sell it either.
“Clearly they must have something in mind, and even if it is development, that would surely take a while to come to fruition. But it is their stadium and they can do with it as they please.”
It is the second time that Codd has missed out on a stadium acquisition.
He said: “When Walthamstow was sold, I approached the new owners and asked to lease it until planning permission was finalised. I wanted it for three years at half a million pounds per year. But the new owners reckoned they would be on site in six months.
“In fact, by the time they were in position to start building it was just about six years.”
