Peterborough have filled 15 opens for their non-televised Fengate Collar Final meeting on Saturday night, though racing manager James Chalkley said it could have been more.
He said: “I didn’t know what to expect. Last year it was a twelve race card including 10 opens. But for the logistics, which would have meant changing the starting time with the implications for staff, we had enough entries for 16 or 17 opens on Saturday. We have 99 kennels so accommodating them would have been an issue.”

The feature event is the Alan Speechley Fengate Collar Final.
James says: “The two (Glencroft Tiger) is a regular top heat winner here and if he does the same again as he did in the heats, he looks good enough. He will need to ‘ping’, if he doesn’t, he doesn’t win. But he looks the one to beat. Trap one is also well drawn and should get a decent run. The worst drawn dog is four, he seems to run regularly from red at Romford and I suspect he might cut across.”
The S&D Bookmakers Stayers Final features five railers and the draw plays prominently in James’ assessment of the race.
He said: “Raise The Stakes will probably start favourite but missed his break in the heats and might not be able to do the same thing again. He showed great middle pace but was then hanging on a the end. On that basis, the draw seems to favour Twit Twoo who should get a clear run around the outside and knows the track well.”
The S&D Bookmakers Sprint Final looks a wide open contest though the grader has a clear vision of the winner.
He said: “I think it looks made for Wall Garden who showed great early pace to win his heat. Lemon Jetson is a quality open racer though his record here isn’t great and Headford Domino looks to be the danger.”
