Swindon hope to introduce handicap racing in the next three months but Stadia UK’s Bill Glass is not panicking over their introduction.
He said: “The traps are here but we have to make some alterations to the in-field to get them on and off the track quickly. I had a look at how things are done at Hall Green and it has given me a few ideas.
“Overall though, the kennel strength has consolidated at just over 300 and overall morale is pretty good here at present. The owners and trainers can see the building work taking place, albeit it has not started on the new stadium yet.”
So when will that commence?
“I can’t answer that, even though I am being asked it all the time. My usual response is, ‘have a look and you decide’.
“What you will see is that work has started on the houses, and drainage work is taking place all over the site, but the stadium is only a part of a huge development that includes two house building companies and a care home.
“At the last meeting, there had been a site-wide drainage problem. It affects the housing, and the access, and then us.
“The only thing you can guarantee is that if I give a date for the stadium, and work hasn’t started two days later, someone will try to make some capital out of it. Let’s just say we are, overall, quite happy with the progress being made.”
