Droopys Buick was in the fast lane at Sunderland on Friday night when he clocked the fastest 450-metre time of the year as the build-up to the start of this year’s UK Festival of Racing got serious.
The November 2013 son of Yeah Man and Droopys Hilda left the opposition standing as he powered his way to a seven and a quarter-length victory in 26.84 and he is clearly going to be the one they have to beat in the Puppy Plate, which is his target at the Festival.
Magical Reid followed up last week’s win with another success in one of the 640-metre opens advertising his claims for the Grand Prix with a 39.62 run and the speedster that is Walshes Hill extended his latest winning sequence to four as he came home unchallenged in a sprint, clocking 15.43 for the 261 metres to complete a hat-trick for Jimmy Wright’s team.
Mark Wallis, who has twice landed the spoils in the Grand Prix, must have high hopes of adding to that score with Ayamzamodel, who threw her hat into the ring by landing another of Friday’s stayers’ contests in 39.64.
Julie Calvert’s No But showed that he was in peak form for the upcoming majors by defeating Wright’s Droopys Alessio in 27.02, while there was a good double Steve Anderson’s kennel with Getareaction posting a 27.05 and Kneejerkreaction a 27.08 in winning their respective opens.
