Reigning champ Fizzypop Buddy (4-1) put himself into prime position to become the first ever double winner of the English St.Leger. Contesting only the 34th race of his UK career, June Harvey’s striped runner clocked his fastest ever sectional (16.23) and winning time (41.31) as he dominated from the start. Favourite Jaytee Patriot (T6 8-13f) missed his break and then collided with Rubys Rascal (T1 3-1) off the first bend. Rascal rallied to take second from kennelmate Billys Bullet.
Four bend star Cloran Paddy (T2 4-9f) had previously had things all his own way. For the first time he was given a severe test by Huarache Madison (T1 11-2) and he made no mistake with a length and a half victory in 41.75 for the 687m. Mark Wallis secured a third runner in the final when Ferryforth Fran (T6 16-1) finished third.
