The starting point is the Performance of the Week and it can only go to Bo Shine Bullet following a stunning 45.00 run in the semis of the Golden Jacket. It came off a 23.19 sectional. For those looking to compare with Patchys Kerry, Mark Wallis’ 2016 winner clocked 45.10 in the semi finals – off a 22.94 sectional before landing the decider in 44.94.
Little between Monday night’s open race winners at Nottingham, but we’ll give it to Bullet’s litter sister Emoskis Girl who remains unbeaten in his first three stayers races. Their half brother Ballydoyle Blake landed the fastest of Sunday night’s opens at Swindon. Going allowances made it difficult to assess Perry Barr’s Thursday night opens but taking them into account, Savana Volcano went quicker than the best run of 2020.
In terms of the Romford selection, there was some cutting and pasting going on with last week’s Yarmouth top dog Swift Cope proving his versatility with a 24.15 win over 400m. Yarmouth lost a meeting through bad weather this week but gained one with the suspension of racing at Perry Barr and Swift Addition took full advantage on the Sunday card seeing off a string of previous POW winners in 28.22. Kinsley’s quickest time over the similar distance last week was Pantone Jones’, 28.14. Out to defend her crown, she was turned over by Bev Heaton’s pup Ballymac Luanne in 28.13
At Monmore, Bit View Yeats has been a prolific dual distance A1/A1 winner for Chris Jones but his gutsiest run was surely his recent S1 victory on going rated -250. With going so difficult to gauge, the Doncaster selection is Fire Height Sue whose recent A1 win was her fourth in her last six races, with two second places. Central Park sprinter Cals Liberty also boasts a 4/2 record in his last six outings. Henlow’s Jet Stream Socks has won his last four over the standard trip and is still the quickest this year with a 27.33 run.
The third fastest hound at Enniscorthy in 2020 – Mad Mash Bullet (formerly Roanna Mizzuna) with a 28.49 run for 525 yards, recorded the fastest 500 at Hove to date this year with a 29.34 (-10) narrow win in A1. Meanwhile The Other Rex clocked the fastest 500m race of 2021 at Sheffield when landing an A3 in 28.69.
Harlow seldom stage a race above an A5, but the form holds out with Humble Jet winning his last two in that company and clocking the fastest standard of the week.
In terms of speed and consistency, Newcastle’s Colliery Billy gets the nod following a 28.75 win in A1. Paul Rutherford’s black has 10 wins and 3 seconds in his last 15 races. While at Sunderland, the veteran Tree Top Jet, who has average a race a month over the last 18 months, wound back the years to win the fastest sprint so far this year.
