Towcester staged two meetings this week, both featured rounds of the Blue Riband with the best going to 29.36 winner Faughan Rebel in the first round last Wednesday, the third fastest time ever over the new course.
The brilliant Tenpin clocked the fastest time of the night at Monmore on Saturday with a 28.41 (-40) – despite not breaking as well as he can. The nod though, surely has to go to 20 month old pup Lenson Doolin with a 28.55 run?
On the same night, Clever Airmount, a litter sister to View King, went quickest of the Golden Jacket hopefuls at Crayford. On Sunday, Ballynac Ino challenged Doolin for the top puppy run with a FON win in a Swindon open.
Locally bred Riley Ray was the fastest over the Nottingham 680m course last year with a 41.12 win. But she was beaten a short head on Monday by Our Supreme Sue whose 41.55 would have made her the eighth fastest winner last year.
Sticking with the open racers, Newinn Liz missed out on a place in the Essex Vase Final by a neck but has won her last two over course and distance. While at Newcastle, there was a great battle of the girls between Jumeirah Liberty and Coolavanny Bani with the former reversing form with the latter.
A 29.49 run for Hove’s 500m course will always be worth a mention, even more so for Mash Mad Bullet whose time was recorded on -20 going with the night’s next best run, in another A1, was 30.01. Sheffield’s fastest 500 of the week was recorded by journeyman Sharpys Jimmy – in a career best, 29.08.
Perry Barr lost most of their Saturday meeting resulting in a very unusual situation where no runner broke 29.00 on the week. Closest to it was the A1 winning puppy Bobbly Wobbly. Likewise, there won’t be many weeks when 28.00 would the fastest four bend run at Henlow, but that was giood enough for Layton Legend.
Sunday’s featured winners include Sunderland’s top A1 performance of the week from Marinas Monroe. At Pelaw, the three fastest winners were separated by three spots with Jaguar Fury the quickest of the trio.
Ex-Peterborough A2/D1 runner Indian Trump was Harlow’s fastest four bend winner of 2021 to date. The same applies to Doncaster’s Glaise Babe over the shorter 450m trip and defending Kinsley champ Brosna Blonde over the sprint. Lenson Austin was the only other hound to defend his nomination. His Central Park 642m winning time was 121 spots slower than last week but adjusted to be 28 spots quicker on going allowance.
Last week’s Yarmouth POW Montrose was out to defend his title last Wednesday, but lost it to Adamant Taurus in 27.99.
