Liz Mort, Keeper of the Greyhound Stud Book, has reported a flurry of recent registrations including June litters out of Cat One winners, Salacres Pippy and Stardom.

One significant move has been the increase in litters for home based dogs. The long established Hiya Butt has nine litters to go with the 21 from last year.

Ice On Fire has six to go with the 23 produced in 2021. The more recently arrived King Turbo has seven litters so far this year.

From August 1, all May ’21 pups were eligible to begin their qualifying trials on GBGB tracks.

Among them were the first litter by Newinn Jacko out of Ace Queen.

The mating took place while Jacko was still in training, but the Monmore Puppy Derby winner has faced a couple of setbacks since.

Joint owner Peter Stevens said: “Jacko joined Mark Mayers in Lancashire at the start of the year.

“Unfortunately, Jacko had picked up some kind of kennel bug and it temporarily affected his fertility. Thankfully he is over it now and his latest set of tests have come back perfect.

“He has served a couple of bitches within the last fortnight and we can now start looking forward again.”

In the meantime, sister Newinn Liz has produced her first litter, by Derby winner Deerjet Sydney.

Peter said: “There are three dogs and two bitches and they are being reared by Pauline Buckley. We have a bitch in the litter, Pat says the dogs aren’t for sale.

“I’m not surprised, they are fabulous looking pups.”
