It is final night at Hove for the Coral Brighton Belle and Seasons Scaffolding Puppy Cup with an excellent supporting card. Local kennelhand Callum Field-Mullins has one again been compiling the selections and thoughts of some of his peers. They make for an additional extra insight into proceedings.
As far as last week’s Kennelhands Tipster Competition was concerned, Charlie, Dan, Ashlee and Callum all selected three winners. Maisie had one.
In terms of the virtual punting, Charlie Rees lumped £50 on Ballymac John (6-5) for a £10 profit on the night. Callum had a £20 double on Ballymac John (6-5) and Droopys Clue (11-8) for a £2.50 profit on the night. The rest don’t want to talk about it!
So over to Callum . . .
Although an end of an amazing few weeks of open racing will be coming to a close. Four finals are taking centre stage, the Brighton Belle, Seasons Scaffolding Puppy Cup, Coral Sprint Trophy and the Jenny Bunting Memorial which is an A2 sweepstake. To all those with runners and connections for the respective finals and opens, Good Luck.
Before we get into the form and selections for the card, A few thanks go to our tipsters who have had a mixture of successful selections, yet its not over, we’ve got one more to follow. As our five kennelhands have got one more task, and below you’ll be able to find who they’ve got their eyes on to follow. We hope you’ve enjoyed this column.
And the punting. . .
Charlie Rees £50 Double: Droopys Clue/Whats Up Eva £25 double: Bombay Zero/Havana Bale Out £25 treble: Droopys Clue/Bombay Zero/Clongeel Ozzie
Dan Wallis £80 win Chelms Otis £20 double Gougane Jet/Ballymac John
Ashlee Williams £20 win Who Needs Wings £15 win Whatever £15 win Sharp Josh £50 double Ninja Kerr/Droopys Clue
Maisie Bourne £50 win No Rush £30 win Chelms Otis £20 win Roll On Sydney
Callum Field-Mullins £50 double Chelms Otis/Sharp Josh £10 E/W treble Long Raven/Da Missing Man/Swift Ukraine £30 double Chelms Otis/Lively Lauren
Daniel said: ” Chelms Otis ran well in a heat of the puppy competition last week and was unlucky not to qualify for the final but looks like he should lead up and looks a drop in class.
Callum said: “Chelms Otis has been unlucky in recent visits but shows good early and may well be starting to show he’s suited to the trip and course.
Ashlee said: “Ninja Kerry once again didn’t let anybody down. Just a dog who is bang in form right now who should potentially add another win to his tally.”
Callum said: “Long Raven has been putting in excellent performances at Oxford and is going the right way, the longer trip will be better considering this dog has plenty of backstraight pace and an extended run to the bend will only benefit.”
Charlie said: “Bombay Zero has a massive drop in class. He can lead early and run away with it.”
Ashlee said: ” Whatever holds a solid chance as showed amazing early for a 3.50 sectional last time out and will be close to it to maybe win his first open race at a good price.”
Charlie said: “Clongeel Ozzie is well drawn well, and is getting stronger each time he runs.”
Maisie said: ” In Roll On Sydney, I’m taking a bit of chance; it’s a good race. Sydney is a fast dog but doesn’t always know where he wants to go. Fingers crossed for a nice run.”
Charlie said: “I think Havana Bale Out can run a lot better than she has shown recently.”
Charlie said: Old Fort Beetee, just purely based on a good draw”
Dan said: ” Gougane Jet has an unfamiliar draw in one but he should go well with a good break.”
Callum said: “Da Missing Man put in a superb display last week despite trap six. Now drawn closer to the middle he will be able to turn the tables early with hot dogs on inside and out.”
Semi finals: Bubbly Cooper Ballymac John Droopys Clue
Charlie said: “Droopys Clue will lead early and won’t be for catching”
Dan said: “Ballymac John has a poor draw and it’s a hot puppy race. But I think if he breaks like last week he could cheat the draw and if he can get round the bend in front. It would take a good run to pick him up as he’s very strong over the 500.”
Ashlee said: “Droopys Clue impressed last week and after early trouble led after the second to beat Maree Champion who put on an amazing race in defeat.”
Callum said: “Despite it being a fantastic final I still think the draw in six is massively overlooked, Jacktavern Magic will become a very strong dog in time, and if breaking well with a clean bend he could have a clear run.”
Betting: 11-8 Maree Champion, 201 Droopys Clue, 4-1 Ballymac John, 10-1 Bubbly Cooper, 10-1 Bubbly Scorcher, 14-1 Jacktavern Magic
Semis finals: Lively Lauren My Girl Mia No Rush
Maisie said: “No Rush has been running out of her skin round Hove & think she’s got a brilliant draw being the only wide seed in the race.”
Callum said: “Defied the draw last week to win impressively, Lively Lauren now has an ideal box in one. May not be there at the start but will have everything to layout when coming home.”
Betting: 2-1 No Rush, 3-1 Lively Lauren, 100-30 My Girl Mia, 6-1 Whats Up Eva, 8-1 Betsys Bullet, 12-1 Newinn Touch
Ashlee said: “Sharp Josh can do very similar top Who Needs Wings. It might be a slight worry running first time out of six however.”
Callum said: “Sharp Josh is very consistent in the graded strength over recent weeks and although its his first run from six, a quick break will be a good start to see him grab a four timer.”
Ashlee said: ” Who Needs Wings, owned by myself and Teresa Cahill, is definitely suited to the 515 metres. The long run up to the first gives him a better chance to avoid trouble. He can lead at the first bend and stretch them to the line.”
