BRESBET is to once again sponsor the East Anglian Greyhound Derby at Yarmouth Stadium.
This year will see the 76th running of one of greyhound racing’s most famous competitions and Sheffield-based BresBet is backing the event, which offers a first prize of £15,000 for the Grand Final over 462m on Wednesday, September 14.
Last year’s BresBet East Anglian Greyhound Derby winner was Antigua Storm, owned by Nic and Amanda Jeal. He was trained by 12-time champion greyhound trainer Mark Wallis.
Forming part of the Festival of Racing on the east coast – incorporating both horses at Great Yarmouth Racecourse and greyhounds at Yarmouth Stadium – BresBet managing director David Perry is looking forward to another classy and competitive BresBet East Anglian Greyhound Derby.
He said: “Yarmouth in September for the Festival of Racing is very much the place to be if you love your horses and dogs – and we’re delighted to be there once again. “As a company, we were hugely impressed by the Franklin family’s commitment to this great race last year. The East Anglian Greyhound Derby is very much a date for the diary for not just greyhound racing enthusiasts but for those in and around the area on holiday during a popular time of year.”
Track director Simon Franklin is looking forward to hosting the coastal venue’s main event of the year, as well as all the usual supporting competitions.
He said: “It was fantastic to welcome a new sponsor for the East Anglian Greyhound Derby in BresBet last year and we had another superb competition with an exciting final and high-class winner.
“As most in the sport know, this competition has a huge history. It was started by my grandfather Len Franklin in 1947, has a great tradition in the greyhound racing calendar, and also works well alongside the horse racing festival we have here in Yarmouth in September.”
