An Oxford court has dismissed a request on behalf of the representatives of Galliard Homes to have a conservation order lifted on Oxford Stadium writes Floyd Amphlett.

Local MP Andrew Smith was jubilant as he posed in front of the stadium with Oxford Stadium supporters for a photograph on Thursday afternoon.

He said: “Today’s decision, to dismiss the appeal (to have heritage status lifted on the site) is a massive boost to this campaign and was a very strong decision from the judge.

“Not only did he refuse leave to appeal, but he ordered costs be awarded against Galliards”

Galliards need to realise that they will not get planning permission for housing and they should either sell the stadium or put it on a long lease.

“My message to NAMA (who own the debt that bought the GRA tracks), is this, ‘see some sense and enforce the sale of the site for stadium use.

“Given the way developers behave, this could still be a long campaign but we are totally resolved to seeing this through.”
