Warzone Tom trained by Liz McNair and owned by Brendan Keogh and Simon Senyk got up late in a thrilling finish to the 2022 Premier Greyhound Racing Champion Stakes Final at Romford Stadium on Friday evening. Waste House Izzy had set the fractions upfront for local trainer David Mullins and for a long way looked all set to break the heart of Tom and connections. Eventually however Tom switched wide rounding the final turn and just about got up on the line in a time of 3489 on a track officially rated .30 fast. A delighted Brendan Keogh said “He’s some dog , he’s done absolutely everything wrong and still go up to win”. Simon Senyk also praised his star as he said “What a performance , absolutely full of bottle. After the trouble he had he’s shown great determination to come through and win”. Whilst Liz McNair echoed those thoughts as she said “He maybe didn’t show quite such determination in his younger years but he’s really come into himself as he’s got older. A great dog and showed superb determination after trouble at various stages of the race. I thought when he had to check wide around the last that his chance was gone but he dug in deep and came through”. The victory made in Category One Final success number 3 for Warzone Tom having already added the Ladbrokes Gold Collar of 2021 and the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic of 2022 to his CV.
