Ballymac Bonnie became the first Irish winner of the TV Trophy when successful in the Colossus Bets sponsored event over 906 metres writes Jason Craddock.

The pace was set by Bubbly Time who was a clear leader with a lap to go over Droopys Cottage with Ballymac Bonnie in fifth place.

However the Irish bitch changed gear down the back straight for the final time and hit the front off the penultimate turn and went on to beat Bubbly Time by three and a half lengths in 55.44sec.

Winning trainer Liam Dowling’s said afterwards: “Shes a great bitch that picks her spots and then goes for it. She ran a great back straight.

“I remember watching this race as a kid on the TV and it is great to win it with Bonnie. When I saw her moving up I knew she was close enough and she made it look comfortable in the end.

“It’s difficult to nominate targets as she is a six month bitch but I wouldn’t rule out a crack at the St Leger at Wimbledon.”

Pennys Seabiscuit was a local winner of the Duralock Puppy Trophy over 480 metres.

Mark Wallis’s runner came through strongly at the third turn to pass Calzaghe Matt and Droopys Yves, who did each other no favours on the rails, and went on to beat Roswell Raphael by three quarters of a length in 28.55sec.

Wallis said afterwards: “He ran well at Yarmouth last week and has improved again to win this. We’ll take him back to Yarmouth now for the Derby next month.”

Adageo Bob gave Wallis a quick double by landing the Derek Burridge Trophies Seniors Trophy over 480 metres.

The British bred runner hit the front off the third turn and went on to beat Melodys Midnight by four lengths in 28.20sec.

Wallis said: “He’s running on Friday at Romford in preparation for the Champion Stakes. It would be great for him to win a major event at Romford and we think he’s as good as ever.”

Wallis completed a treble when Black Francis dominated the Storm Canis Stayers Trophy over 655 metres.

The son of Head Bound was soon clear and held off the late surge of another local runner What Fun Macey by three quarters of a length in 39.43sec.

Wallis said: “He’s been a great servant and that was his 12th win of the year.”

Razldazlnewstalk made history when becoming the first winner over hurdles at Towcester in the Earthworm Energy Hurdle Trophy Children’s Race over 480 metres.

Ricky Holloway’s runner blasted out of the boxes and was always well clear, eventually beating Springbok winner Reculver Ozzie by five lengths in 28.41sec.

“He’s ironed out his jumping. He was novicy but has ironed out his faults and is now the finished article.”

Calzaghe Lisa ran her rivals ragged in the Print Data Solutions Super Stayers Trophy over 686 metres.

Ted Soppitt’s runner was soon clear and went on to beat the staying on Borna Champ by almost four lengths in 41.54sec.

Soppitt said: “She has a nice touch of early pace for a stayer. She’s just two and hopefully there is more to come.”

See No Gamble (6-1) was the biggest priced winner on the card in the Winning Post Bookmakers Bristol Standard Stakes over 480 metres.

Patrick Janssens’s runner was led until close home by Calzaghe George but got up to win by three quarters of a length in 28.47sec.

Kennel spokesman Pete Vernon said: “Normally he does it from the front but he loves it round here and did well to come from behind. He’s now going for the Yarmouth Derby.”

Ballybee Brewery was another successful favourite in the Colossus Greyhounds Mega Jackpots coming soon Sprint Stakes over 260 metres.

Liz McNair’s runner trapped to the front and held off the late challenge of Cape Impact by three quarters of a length in 15.36sec.

Assistant trainer Rab McNair said: “The dog has really come to hand and he’s now won five out of his eight races.”
