Carl Perry won two of the six Sheffield £500 finals on Sunday though it was the performance of Geelo Blissful (Laughill Blake-Ballyrobin Venus, Aug 16) that stood out on the day.
The 11-4 chance in the 480m puppy final clocked 27.53, just one spot slower than the fastest female over course and distance in the last three years, the great Domino Storm. Some run for a pup!
The Perry double came courtesy of the similarly priced Geelo Zip (Ballymac Eske-Emers Ivy, Aug 15) courtesy of a 28.91 narrow victory over Bull Run Button.
John Lambe’s Affane Party (Sparta Maestro-Affane Katie, Jun 15) completed at five-timer to win the 280m decider in 16.17. It was the 4-7 favourite’s ninth win in 12 races this year.
The ultra consistent Soars Above (Premier Fantasy-Rossas Baby, Sep 14) landed the 660m final for Barrie Draper with a hard earned two length win over Harton Hondo in 39.22. In his last 13 races the black has six wins, six seconds with one ‘KO’.
Allen Lumbe’s Elegant Eileen (Zero Ten-Elegant Anna, Dec 15) had been beaten in all eight open race attempts prior to the heats of last week’s maiden competition. But having just held on to win her 480m heat in 28.11, she then kicked on to take the final in 27.71.
Dorotas Hooligan (Ballymac Vic-Droopys Danneel, May 15) has become the forgotton member of the most successful litter of the last couple of years. But the dog who spent eight months on the sidelines finally won in the sixth race following his return when taking the 500m decider in 28.67.
