The ‘Bitch of the Year’ is a title that has flitted in and out of the awards ceremony for more than 30 years.
It returned four years ago and offers an escape route in the occasional s i t u a t i o n when all the major prizes go to the males. Whether or not that h a p p e n s again this year, there is potential for obvious doubling up in the cases of Roxholme Dream, Hometown Honey and Cashen Maureen who would appear to feature heavily in other categories. In fact, Mark Wallis was very successful with the ladies. Evanta Evita, winner of the Ladbrokes Summer Cup might have pushed Maureen even closer but for the intervention of oestrus. Aayamzamodel is another from the same range. Also entirely worthy of mention is Butts Mott who turned over Roxholme Dream in the Brighton Belle Final. Last but certainly not least is Angel Of The North winner Jaytee China had won eight of her eleven races to date this year and would surely have given Maureen a run in the Oaks but for being KO’d in the qualifiers.
