With the SIS St. Leger (the Doncaster version) less than two weeks away (it starts on Monday September 24), the big guns start arriving in numbers tonight for introductions or reminders of the tough Stainforth circuit.
Matt Dartnall’s Stayers Classic winner Ela Juliet, and Raceway Fly, and Carol Weatherall’s Calico Ranger – unbeaten in his only two staying races – are all expected. Phil Simmonds Ridgedale Max and already been around with Coney Karat and Millhouse Tommy also slated for sighters.
The racing office’s Nathan Shephard said: “We understand that Charlie (Lister) is bringing back last year’s winner Keplar Nine and Mark Wallis is also expected to enter a few though we still don’t know which ones. There is certainly plenty of interest.”
The 36 runner 661m event is worth £12,000 to the winner, £1,500 for the runner-up and £500 for the third. It closes for entries next Friday (Sep 21), and concludes on Monday October 8.
