British breeders have good reason to be looking forward to 2020 with anticipation as the series of BGBF sponsored races for British Breds starts to be rolled out!
The British Greyhound Breeders’ Forum manages monies awarded by the British Greyhound Racing Fund and other sources, including SIS. Last year after a successful first half, funding from the BGRF was increased and enabled more new races to be put on, including the highly successful Cat 1 Northern Plate.
This year the monies available from the Fund have been increased yet again, some 28% up on last year’s final allocation, and the Forum is currently planning how to best use the money to continue with the competitions they have put on over the past few years as well as incorporate new competitions and ideas into the BGBF Calendar.
The first of this year’s BGBF competitions will be announced in the GBGB Calendar tonight – a Cat 2 Maiden for British Breds to be run at Romford with its Final on Friday 13 March (this is the same night as the Final of the Golden Sprint). Heats will be the previous Friday, 6th. This will see the winner of the Final taking home £4,000 plus Trophy and jacket, £1,800 between the other finalists and Breeders’ prizes to the breeder of each Finalist.
Dates for other competitions – the Puppy Cup, Scurry, St Leger, Northern Plate etc are not finalised but will be as soon as possible. The Derby being brought forward this year has meant that timings of some competitions are having to be rethought.
Meanwhile – watch this space!
