The postponement of next week’s GAIN Trainers Championship meeting remains an option for Towcester following the cancellation of Saturday’s night’s Astute Electronics Gold Cup card.
The arrival of the mini Beast from the East following its big brother three weeks ago has played havoc with the scheduling of the track’s new ‘Cat One’ competition.
Under normal circumstances, the final meeting would be delayed, by a few days. But with five of Saturday’s big race finalists confirmed entries for next weekend’s Trainers Championship, and the RPGTV Scottish Derby due to get underway the following weekend, the track are running short of elbow room.
Saturday’s meeting was cancelled with all the dogs in the stadium but with snow falling heavily.
Spokesman Mick Livesey said: “First of all, we can only apologise that we lost the meeting. With the benefit of hindsight, maybe it c0uld have been called off sooner. But it was raceable for the morning meeting and for the pre-race trials. Despite a massive effort from track staff, we had to bow to the inevitable. The safety of the dogs will always come first.
“We are now looking at options and are in consultation with the trainers and GBGB. It would be wrong to make any decisions until we have sought a consensus of opinion.”
Surely the obvious option would be to find another date for the GAIN Trainers Championship?
Livesey said: “We are ruling nothing in, and nothing out.”
Tonight’s (Sunday) meeting has also been cancelled.
