Perry Barr racing manager Martin Seal appears to be hinting that acceptances to the St Leger and Birmingham Cup could be at a premium as trainers, starved of minor open options, attempt to find races for this stars.
Seal said: In advance of the RPGTV St Leger and M Lambe Construction Birmingham Cup, I would like to take this opportunity to offer my thanks to both Clive Lawrence at RPGTV and senior Perry Barr trainer John Lambe for their generosity, as well as Arena Racing’s Greyhound Operations Director Rachel Corden for her substantial input.
“RPGTV, and Clive in particular, are always enthusiastic in sponsoring the sport’s long standing competitions where needed, and that support has proved invaluable over the past few years with sponsorship in general at an absolute premium.
“John Lambe has put a lot into greyhound racing over the years, and thanks to his passion for this wonderful sport, the Birmingham Cup, last staged in 2009 when won by the Charlie Lister trained Fear Zafonic, has been resurrected in memory of John’s late father, Michael Lambe Senior. A fitting tribute indeed.
“Interest in both competitions has been increasing week by week, culminating in a combined entry of 63 names for this Thursday’s two sets of trial stakes, and recent trial sessions have featured some of greyhound racing’s fastest and strongest hounds.
“With both competitions due to close at noon on Monday 9th November, and with trial sessions until then already bursting at the seams, prospective entrants who have not already had a look round will have to rely on their CV to warrant a place in these two prestigious events.
“There are also a couple of supporting 18 dog Category 3 stakes listed in the GBGB calendar, for 275m all aged and over 480m open to December puppies or younger.”
The 36 runner stayers event and 24 entry middle distance contest both get underway next Thursday, November 12 and conclude a fortnight later.
