PERRY BARR BANNERPerry Barr’s fortnightly Friday opens continue to attract some decent quality entries and at this stage, it looks like they will continue into the Summer. With effect from the open races advertised for 3rd June, their Friday opens will close at noon on the Tuesday beforehand, a day later than at present.

Tuesday 26th April’s BAGS meeting marked the end of an era, it being the last appearance of the Paul Meek trained Final Quevega (Droopys Scolari / Castlehill Alex), who has been retired having just turned five years of age. Quevega came into Paul’s kennel aged just fifteen months in July 2012, with a solitary Derry trial line on her card, and started her Perry Barr racing career in August of that year in A6 grade.

Quevega’s forte was early pace, and she made trap 5 her own, often putting her races to bed by halfway. Her career record stands at 162 races, with 35 wins and 26 2nds, an outstanding achievement by any measure.

The Should Know Better syndicate owned bitch exemplifies everything that is good about the game, her enthusiasm and durability showcasing how well she was handled by Paul and Angie.

Quevega has very recently come in season, and is over in Ireland for a mating with Ballymac Eske. Her litter brother Eden Scolari was also a prolific graded winner at Derry and a later Razldazl Jayfkay litter produced Paul Hennessy’s Mucho Macho Man.

The track has plans for a presentation to Paul and Angie in the coming weeks.

John Lambe’s Ballymac Darragh is Perry Barr’s last remaining representative in this year’s William Hill Greyhound Derby, with the black powerhouse going into battle once again this Saturday night.

The stadium send their best wishes to man and dog
