The day after Ballymac Matt takes his place in the Boylesports Irish Derby Final his owner breeder Liam Dowling will take his first step into on-line auctions.
The Kerryman has made nine lots available for a new on-line bidding site www.greyhoundbid.com and he has made some of his best bred stock available.
There are three 15 month old recently littermates by Vans Escalade out of Ballymac Penske, the dam of Ballymac Eske, Ballymac Best and Vulturi.
There are two similarly aged and experienced offspring by Ballymac Bull out of Moyar Kate (a sister of Sparta Maestro) and four ‘babies’, two from a Tyrur Big Mike/Ballymac Penske litter and two by Droopys Scolari out of Coolavanny Angie.
The top bid to date is £16,500 for Ballymac Lyster who won his qualifying trial in 29.49 (calc) at Tralee.
So why go down the auction route? It can’t be for lack of customers.
Dowling replied: “It’s a time thing really. I spend so much time taking phone calls, giving out information to so many people. This just simplifies it.
“Obviously this is just testing the water for ourselves and potential buyers but I decided to try and make some decent quality pups available and we will see where it takes us.”
The kennel are firing on all cylinders both on the breeding and racing aspects.
Dowlng said: “We have more broods now than we have had for a good while, probably fifteen.”
As for Ballymac Matt’s chance?
“I would have preferred him a bit closer to the rail, but that’s how it goes. You would expect Owen’s dog (Farloe Blitz) to lead, and just hope to get a clear run behind him.”
