JUNE 2017 – BAGS announced today the latest round of payments to tracks of revenue generated from streaming. This means that, with this payment of £575,000, more than £2.3 million will have been distributed to tracks since the launch of live streaming of greyhound racing back in October 2015 .
The most recent payment has been generated through the streaming of live BAGS racing in the last quarter of 2016.
BAGS estimates that from the announcements made after the last payment the tracks have committed about 50 per cent of this to go directly into prize money and welfare, providing a further boost to benefit the grass roots of the industry.
Dominic Ford, chairman of BAGS said: “This extra funding clearly demonstrates the success that BAGS has had in developing this new online source of revenue for the sport.
“It also shows that on an annualised basis the Bookmakers are paying an additional £2million to the Greyhound industry. We are seeing continuing growth, our customers are happy and this has led to a further increase in turnover, as outlined in the Gambling Commission report.
Phill Adams, BAGS CEO said: “BAGS streaming has been a real success with both the number of partners and streaming volumes continuing to increase year on year. We are also very glad of the continuing support of the tracks in ensuring that this additional revenue is going where it is needed.”
There are currently 14 streaming partners already live and more are expected to come online in the coming months. International markets, including Australia, could see a further increase in funding going back to the sport.
