On Saturday, Sheffield host the Gain GTA Trainers Championship meeting. We asked six trainers – with assistant Jimmy Wright speaking on behalf of Angela Harrison, six questions about the meeting.
1) What are your three best chances in order?
Angela Harrison: 1) Droopys Expert, Droopys Live, Droopys Verve
Kevin Hutton: 1) Magical Vera, 2) Galloping Moon, 3) Prize Fighter
Patrick Janssens: 1) Seaglass Tiger, 2) Headford Johnny, 3) Seaglass Phantom
John Mullins: 1) Swift Biscuit, 2) Rockmount Ossy, 3) Swift Tarquin
Phil Simmonds: 1) Grays Cup Winner, 2) Ridgedale Max, 3) Raceway Fly
Mark Wallis: 1) Antigua Fire who I think would have had a chance in Division A 2) Droopys Cruiser who is well drawn and should get a run 3) Brigadier Bullet
2) Which of your dogs is the best drawn
Angela Harrison: Droopys Live – drawn to lead
Kevin Hutton: Galloping Moon
Patrick Janssens: Seaglass Phantom, ideal in one
John Mullins: Swift Tarquin
Phil Simmonds: Grays Cup Winner
Mark Wallis: Chubbys Turkana
3) Which dog has the worst draw?
Angela Harrison: Droopys Bacon
Kevin Hutton: Dive On Hunter – will turn violently left out of the boxes
Patrick Janssens: Seaglass Tiger, though I hope his class will overcome it
John Mullins: Saving Mullpark
Phil Simmonds: I don’t have any
Mark Wallis: Brinkleys Rosie will go straight for the rail from three
4) Which of your runners is worth a ‘crafty tenner’?
Angela Harrison: Move Over Evie, being priced up at 7-2 and 4-1. Can lead up if she comes away
Kevin Hutton: Madabout Philip. He is a dog without a distance but is improving
Patrick Janssens: Affleck Bolt is being quoted at 14-1 with Paddy Power which I just don’t get. In my opinion he looks like a 3-1 chance.
John Mullins: Swift Biscuit
Phil Simmonds: Raceway Fly
Mark Wallis: Glory Snake is quoted at 14-1. He has a quirk but has ridiculous pace and has the ability to catch anything
5) Which dog from any other kennel would you have liked for your team?
Angela Harrison: The Juvenile winner Seaglass Phantom
Kevin Hutton: Grays Cup Winner
Patrick Janssens: Droopys Verve
John Mullins: Droopys Verve
Phil Simmonds: Droopys Verve
Mark Wallis: Droopys Verve, we are very light over the standard distancs
6) If you don’t win it, who do you think will and why?
Angela Harrison: I think Patrick has a great chance because of his strength in depth. The pup isn’t well drawn, the sprinter isn’t a true sprinter and Hollylake Fly is the stayers races. We only bought her to run in handicaps over four and six bends and she has done really well but she isn’t the class of the others.
Kevin Hutton: I think Patrick has great strength in depth, not necessarily all winners, but a lot of dogs who will be running on to score good points.
Patrick Janssens: I think Angela looks the one to beat with such strength in her four-bend dogs. As much as I rate mine, hers have done it at the very top level.
John Mullins: Angela Harrison. They had a few runners a couple of weeks ago where whatever could go wrong, went wrong in terms of missed breaks and trouble and I feel they could be due a change of luck
Phil Simmonds: Patrick Janssens – I think he has the most quality dogs in depth
Mark Wallis: I think the betting is spot on with Patrick and Angela as joint favourites but at 9-2, Kevin Hutton looks great value at a meeting where he normally does so well.
