Following immediately on from their agreement with BAGS to distribute pictures into the UK betting shops from next year, ARC have announced a partnership deal with Australia’s Tabcorp – more colloquially referred to as ‘TAB’.
Many British racegoers will best know of TAB as the provider of greyhound racing to the Australian pubs and clubs. It is THE revenue generator in Australian racing having raised $813m for racing in 2016/17 alone.
Although the exact details of the agreement have not been released, the two sides have committed to transmit UK greyhound racing betting and pictures in Australia and with Australian horse and greyhound coverage heading in the opposite direction.
ARC’s Director of Media Technology and Production and Director of The Racing Partnership, Mark Kingston, said: “This agreement reflects the compelling strength and value of our greyhound service, which includes tracks that have served the UK and international betting markets so well for a number of years. It is tremendous news for UK greyhound racing as it ensures the sport is showcased to a growing worldwide audience. We are excited to have developed a partnership with an industry-leading organisation like Tabcorp which allows ARC to continue to deliver on our aim of providing high quality betting content to our bookmaking customers in the UK and across international territories.”
Tabcorp’s General Manager of International, Brett Gorman, said: “We are delighted to agree this deal with ARC. We see this as an important strategic development involving two international media rights holders in a growing and competitive marketplace. Both ARC’s greyhound offering, and our own horseracing and greyhound racing, are long-established and well-proven products. We look forward to a long and successful relationship.”
Editors Chair – This is the first sign of ARC using its considerable worldwide presence to broadcast British greyhound racing abroad. It is extremely significant as it will create additional revenues for UK racing and begins to release the greyhound industry from the strangehold of UK betting shops. More announcements are anticipated.
