Owners and trainer of potential runners in the first round of the Calne Racing Arc can enjoy a unique experience today as the draw will be shown via a live podcast from GBGB headquarters. But there will be some disappointed connections . . .
Joint racing manager Dave Stow said: “We have had 60 entries and we have to reduce them to 36, which is a problem in itself. To make matters more difficult, four of the big kennels will probably have the guts of 20 runners between them, and all of those runners will be good enough to get in. We know that is going to irritate some of the other connections, but it has to be done on merit.
“Before the draw is made, I will be phoning several kennels to pre-warn them that they may only get one runner, when they wanted three or four, and determining whether they still want to take part.”
