Romford Puppy Cup finalist Make No Apologie (Tyrur Big Mike-Emmas Pride, Dec 17) made it five wins in eight starts in the Seasons Scaffolding Puppy Trophy at Hove on Thursday night.

Unraced in Ireland, the Heather Dimmock trained runner disputed the early lead with the three month younger Antigua Breeze before kicking on for an impressive 28.29 (N) win. It was the second fastest time over course and distance, just five spots outside Trade Fudge’s track record.

Assistant trainer Mick Pacey said: “It was the first time that he has had a trap where he could show what he is capable of doing. Once he got clear he just pulled away.

“We bought him from an unofficial trial in Ireland, we already had his sister Faydas Jet. We ran him at Nottingham and Doncaster in his first two races but he didn’t really see out the trip. That’s why we switched him to Romford for the Puppy Cup. He had no luck in the trap draws. He was always likely to find trouble in the Romford final. Had he been drawn three that night, I think he would have gone close.

“There aren’t any plans for him at the moment. I don’t think there are any more puppy events, barring one-offs. So he may run in a few of them.”
