Ante-post favourite Gaytime Hawk crashed out of the second round of the Irish Independent Laurels over 525 yards at Cork on Saturday.
Graham Holland’s runner found plenty of trouble on the run-up and on the second turn. The race went to David Kennedy’s Trinity Forest, who made all to hold Mimis Ace by a short head in 28.56sec.
Holland also saw his Easter Cup third Coren Sky play second fiddle to Knocktoo Garry in the opening qualifier; beaten a length and a half behind the all the way winner who clocked 28.56sec.
Paul Hennessy’s Barefoot Apollo clocked the quickest time of the night in heat five when making all the running to beat Carrowkeal Bart by four lengths in 28.23sec.
Mossie O’Connor’s Baile Mhic was a trap to line winner of heat four when beating Liss Louise by eight lengths in 28.27sec. Highly regarded duo Blue Cafu and Ballyard Matt exited the event.
O’Connor doubled up in heat three when his Midtown Raffa got up close home in a blanket finish to beat Skywalker Echo by a short head in 28.64sec.
Greenisle Legend took advantage of being the sole wide runner in heat six to make all and beat Ballybough Mike by two and a half lengths in 28.50sec.
J.J. Fennelly’s Burgess Rumble was never headed in heat seven when outpointing Tyrur Susan by two lengths in 28.43sec.
Rastafari Vic got the better of a battle with Burgess Four in the last qualifier by a length in 28.43sec.
