Bubbly Apache (Loughteen Blanco-Droopys Berry, Oct 19) was the stand-out performer from Monday night’s ARC Puppy Classic trialstakes at Nottingham.
The Paul Young trained white and black, who had previously clocked 29.56 (+50) over both the Nottingham and Towcester Derby 500m courses, was never challenged.
He flashed away to a 4.94 sectional on his way to a 29.63 victory in only his second ever race.
Joint racing manager Jason Smith said: “The first trial was very good so we were expecting something exceptional and so it proved. He was very impressive.”
The night’s other two trialstakes went to Locked Down (29.98) and January pup Kilara Rhythm (30.16).
Meanwhile there was a turn-up in the 480m puppy final which went to 16-1 chance Baggios Champ in 28.97.
The track was in very good order with Churchill Holly clocking 28.22 – the fastest 480 seen at the track in two years.
There was also plenty of interest in pre-race trials. Derby winner Thorn Falcon clocked a workmanlike 30.21 for the 500m course, a time that was bettered by the exciting pups Trumps Benefit (29.95) and Angela Harrison’s Coolavanny Aunty (29.87).
Jason said: “That was an exceptional run from Coolavanny Aunty first time round. This isn’t an easy track for pups and you expect them all to improve next time out.
“Thorn Falcon didn’t take the bend quite as well as he should but I am sure he will improve on his second look at the place.”
The closing date for the 2021 ARC Puppy Classic is on Friday
