Steve Anderson, who announced last month that he was moving from Doncaster to Newcastle, has now completed the switch.
Originally the Houghton-le-Spring trainer had arranged to stay with the South Yorkshire racecourse until the middle of this month to help them through the opening weeks of their first Bags contract, but with more and more of his greyhounds going through their grading trials on Tyneside and Doncaster happy that they could meeting their commitments to the betting shop service, they came to a mutual agreement at the weekend that he could end his association with the track ahead of schedule.
Doncaster racing manager Mick Smith says: “I really like Steve and hope he does well. His dogs were mostly in the top grades here at Doncaster and I was using him less and less on the Bags card with his runners appearing on the Saturday programmes and I am happy that we are sufficiently strong to satisfy the demands of the Wednesday Bags and Saturday night fixtures.
“We have taken on a new trainer in Peter Moore, whose kennels are at Neston on Merseyside and was previously at Perry Barr. I know Peter from my time at Coventry some years ago and he will be supplying us with a strength of about a dozen to start with.”
Anderson’s greyhounds have been busy at Newcastle’s trial session since he accepted the offer of a contract there and he should be having his first runners very soon. Wednesday’s trial session saw a promising run from his Bramble Ted. A July 13 son of Tyrur Ted and Ballymac Scarlet, the dog clocked a 28.93 for the 480 metres. He is now officially attached to Newcastle and could have his first runners this weekend.
