Newcastle were massively oversubscribed for the £20,000 Premier Greyhound Racing All England Cup with 58 entries for the 36 runner event.
General Manager Ian Walton said: “It has been a fabulous entry but has given us our hardest ever trap draw. We had to leave out 22 greyhounds, and for that I can only appologise to connections.
“We’ve had some outside dogs come along to trial who have done decent, rather than spectacular trials. But we are conscious of the efforts they have made and the fact that they can be expected to improve following those trials.
“At the same time, just about every A1 runner at the track has been entered. Their connections will be saying ‘we support you every week of the year, we are entitled to our chance at our big race’. We are conscious of that too.
“We are also guided a little bit by trying to keep some sort of balance in terms of seeding. I know we will face some stick nomatter what we do.
“I would like to thank everyone who entered, and also ARC’s Alex McTaggart for helping us go through the entries.”
