The recent local coverage of plans to build on Hall Green have not affected the stadium to any significant degree writes Floyd Amphlett.

Assistant racing manager Craig Grove said: “We are all aware of the situation, but nothing goes ahead without planning permission and that is a long time away, so it’s business as usual.”

The Hall Green kennel strength has been bolstered by the arrival of Gary Hodson and currently stands at 355. They even managed their first graded 645m race in many months, last weekend.

Grove said: “Simon Deakin has the biggest kennel strength but we have four or five very strong kennels. 355 is about ideal. Lose a few due to sickness or season, and you have enough to cover, but you don’t want too many because owners would rightly complain that they can’t get a run.

“As far as the stayers races are concerned, we only have about a dozen dogs available, so we are usually restricted to handicap races. Hopefully, we can get a few more stayers on the strength and run more six-bend races. Our four bend top heats are very strong at the moment and there isn’t really anything that can’t be graded.”
