Bockos Alfie made it two wins from three races when successful in the RPGTV April Puppy Stakes Final over 480 metres at Towcester on Tuesday.
Patrick Janssens’s July 14 pup went to traps as the 5-2 second favourite and his backers were confident as he trapped out and pinched an early lead.
However the 5-4 favourite Forest Bressie got inside him on the second turn when he drifted wide and looked set for victory, only for Bockos Alfie to get up again close home and prevail by a short head in 28.53sec.
The best performance on the card came from Saffrons Boxer in the Maiden open.
Mark Wallis’s runner, who had been costly to follow in recent races, found his trapping boots and was quickly clear. He eventually came home almost nine lengths clear of Ballyea Sunrise in 28.16sec.
