An unusually early start at Romford today sees action in the Coronation Cup semi-finals. Those who read last week’s article will know that all five greyhounds mentioned qualified. This week I will look at some other races that have some interesting entries.

After Else trained by John Mullins of Yarmouth makes his open race four bend debut after having five of his six races over two bend trips at several tracks. The January ’15 whelp has won a graded race around Peterborough in an A8 back in June. With his early pace the four bend trip at Romford could suit the son of Premier Fantasy and Come Home Mollie down to a tee.

Trainer John Mullins on After Else said: “We are stepping him up to see what he does if he gets on the bunny.

“I don’t know if he will stay but we have put weight on him and he is a lot stronger for it. He is not the fastest dog in the world but if he gets in front he has a chance.”

For those who follow the open race sprint scene would have definitely seen Chubbys Oak trained by Mark Wallis. The son of Top savings and Sizzling Sarah has been busy making a bit of a name for himself. Over 277 metres at Henlow he is unbeaten in four open races and more recently made the semi-finals of the National Sprint Trophy at Nottingham beating Scolari Sound in the first round heats. The May ’14 whelp has been stepped back up to four bends and competes over 400 metres tonight at 7.46pm. On Tuesday in a trial over 225 metres he done a respectable calculated time of 13.74.

Trainer Mark Wallis on Chubbys Oak said: “We will find out if stays on Friday. He is a big dog and I’ll be very surprised if he didn’t stay.

“We will see how he goes. If he does stay we have the Golden Sprint in mind for him.”

If he does stay and I suspect he will, you heard it here first he has been targeted for the Golden Sprint starting in March.
