A GoFundMe page has been set up for Tommy White, 23, the son of owner-trainer Sean White, after an accident in September left him with life-changing injuries and so nearly cost him his life.

Tommy was involved in a serious accident with a train and only the quick-thinking of the ambulance crew saved his life.

“It’s been a terrible and traumatic time for all the family – not least Tommy,” said Sean, who is well known for greyhounds carrying the ‘Broadway’ prefix as a south London fishmonger whose business is based at Broadway Market in Tooting.

“He’s suffered life-altering injuries with amputations to both legs above the knee. He has also lost his right arm. However, his sheer spirit and attitude is serving him well. He’s proving an inspiration to us, actually, even though we all know he has a long road ahead of him.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up in a bid to raise £100,000 for medical expenses, ongoing rehabilitation, and home modifications required to accommodate life-changing issues.

“We are under no illusions about the task ahead for Tommy but our intention is to help provide him with the best ways to achieve a life as normal and as independent as can be.

“We have seen the things Billy Monger has achieved and he is an inspiration to everyone facing the same life-changing situations.”

Sean also wanted to thank the wider greyhound community who acted quickly to help.

“Overnight our lives have changed, meaning we had to find temporary kennels immediately for the greyhounds here,” he said.

“The people I called to help did so straight away and the dogs were well looked after – but they’re back here now and we’re trialling again at Oxford at the weekend.

“And it will be the dogs who’ll also be a great inspiration for Tommy. He wants to follow and watch the trials via YouTube and then watch them race – he’s giving me advice all the time about what to do and where to race etc and that’s brilliant.

“Tommy wanted them back home with us as soon as possible and they are now, which is great.”
