Boylesports Irish Derby Round Three Draw

March On Freddie is in stripes for his third round heat of the Irish Derby on Saturday.

He will face the Irish Oaks (dead-heat) winner A Lucky Julie in heat four as well as Tuono Charlie. The latter ran Bockos Diamond to a length and a half in the second round. The competition is really starting to heat up and that is just one of some outstanding races in prospect at the weekend.

Connections of Carrick Aldo might be frustrated to see him in with Bockos Diamond again. They are drawn the other way around this time with the latter in orange. Whether that will make any difference to the ante-post favourite is up for debate but it seems unlikely.

Ballinabola Jim and Bombay Pat both have trap six again in heats five and six respectively. The pair are in the top five in the outright betting and can add to the string of wides in the final 24.

English Derby winner De Lahdedah is in heat two while runner-up Boylesports Bob is in the final heat. The first named is the only one in the top six of the ante-post market who does not have a wide seed.

8/1 and 6/1 Eclipse Trial Stake winners

A pair of surprises on Monday night as the road to the Eclipse gathers pace.

The quicker of the pair was Stonepark Wes for David Fradgley.  It looked a smart contest prior with the Birmingham Cup finalist Tricky Wiggles chasing him home in second. Third was Missile One for Seamus Cahill. Stonepark Wes showed plenty of smart form at Doncaster over the summer and is clearly in great heart still.

Vicky Lea won the other with Da Guvnor who continued his rapid progression up the ranks. He had hit the woodwork behind a couple of nice types in Bombay Ben and Bombay Nutty at Towcester. Using his inside position at the opening bend helped him slip away.

The other open on the card was a sprint contest. Jimmy Gaskin had a one-two with Scatter Milo and Skywalker Tino. The winner’s a multiple top grade winner at Doncaster over both 275m and 450m with an open win over the former distance.

Joe’s Tuesday Tips

***8.47 Central Park – Boomerang Blaze
**9.04 Central Park – Queen Ruby
*7.06 Central Park – Hollyoak Maximus

One from three at Nottingham yesterday evening take us into tonight’s graded action looking for a clean sweep and we head to Central Park for all three bets.

The Tuesday Nap

Boomerang Blaze can return to winning ways from trap five in the A4 at 8.47pm. She has now had four races back having been off the card for two months. Although things did not go to plan when dropping into A4 last week, prior to that she was running well in A3 company tying up slightly late on. A slick exit can see her lead and hold on from the strong challengers including Franco Eolais.

Next Best

The next best is Queen Ruby (an April 2023 whelp) who runs in her fifth race this evening, trying to pick up her first victory in D4 at 9.04pm. Last week’s performance behind Head To Town was an eye-catching one where Queen Ruby nearly turned the first bend in front before finding trouble. It was the way she stayed on after the trouble only being beat one length that was the most pleasing thing to see. I have no doubt if she manages to get a clear run from trap two this evening she will be picking up her first victory at the fifth time of asking.

The third bet of the evening is trap three Hollyoak Maximus in the A2 at 7.06pm. This dog clocked a career best when winning in this grade two runs back, stopping the clock at 29.26. Although he finished last in the A1 last week, he was behind a very fast greyhound in Holiday Rascal having found trouble. You can put a line through that run and the drop back into A2 looks a generous one. He should clear Dangerous Brian and Saffaali Belle on his inside and if leading, anywhere close to 29.40 here should suffice.

Boxing Day at Romford is sold out!

Romford announced on social media this morning that the stadium is completely sold out on Boxing Day. Always one of the most popular days in the calendar to go racing, both restaurants and general admission has sold fast. There is limited availability across the rest of the festive period.
