Cahill’s beauty looks for fourth straight Hove win

Harlequin Beauty has been a revelation since stepping up to six bends.

She has a trickier draw this evening with her three wins coming when clad in red. They include producing the quickest of the three qualifying heats for this Coral Stayers Final last week. She got the better of a tussle with Alright Gordy, holding off the strong-running wide runner by three-quarters of length. Ower Smasher has the benefit of the inside draw in the 8.07 contest.

The 8.24, Coral Standard Trophy is a solid contest with Droopys Rosie on the inside for Maxine Locke the sole unseeded runner. Burrows Sapphire directly outside her for Jason Heath was.the quickest in the heats from trap four. Locke also has Droopys Pivotel on the card in the opening heat of a dual distance competition taking on Belinda Green’s Sussex Cup runner-up Wasted Monday at 7.16.

Puppies take centre stage at Newcastle

There are six open races at Newcastle this evening.

Slingshot Sam was runner-up in the Northern Flat at the track back in July. Brian Fairbairn’s hound is in action at 8.19 and would be the star attraction on the card if it were not for a tasty clash in the puppy contest at 7.27.

Jimmy Fenwick’s Skeard Josie takes on Stuart Ray’s Blackhouse Kim. The pair of pups are both sub 28.60 performers at their home track.

Kim made the final of the Puppy Classic at Nottingham when behind March On Freddie and beat Produce Stakes winner Southfield Poppy in the opening round of the Arc Angel of the North.

Josie is a couple of months younger but the penny looks to have well and truly dropped with her of late. She arrives looking for a hat trick of wins after 28.64 and 28.50 performances. Hopefully, the pair can both get a clear run and put on a show.

Four opens on the slate tonight at Swindon

A sprint and three 476m contests make up the open portion of the card.

The bitches contest at 8.11 is the most interesting of them. Ballymac Mags and Baggios Dilemma had a great buckle here at the start of the month. Both might have to give best Produce Finalist, Southfield Petal. Third that day, she split Union Rebel and Romeo Cypher who are both in the Bresbet Steel City Cup Final on Sunday.

Million Dollar Chase

One of the world’s richest greyhound races will be run at Wentworth Park in Sydney tomorrow morning.

Controversy around the trap draw and redraw has only served to heighten interest in the Wentworth Park contest. The fear was that ‘some of the participants had seen where certain boxes had been put during the process’. As such, it was believed that the draw may have been compromised, albeit by accident.

TAB will honour all winning bets made between the two draws and will refund any losers. That gesture of good will is an impressive one from a leading bookmaker.

The current favourite is trap seven Explicit. He might need to ride his luck with pace inside him but he is a class act and deserves his place at the head of the market as the quickest of the heat winners.

Trap two is Zipping Megatron who is the big local hope. 10 wins and four second-place visits to Wentworth Park so far in his career, he will be hard to keep out of the frame if he leads up the one.

Bezzecchi is the hope of Western Australia and has the pink jacket of eight. His 29.12 two weeks back is the quickest of the year at the track. Three states all have huge claims on the contest. The race jumps at 11.22 am our time tomorrow morning.

Barry Dennis RIP

Gary Wiltshire spoke to us this morning about Barry Dennis and will pay full tribute tomorrow on Gone To The Dogs – Live!

“Barry started out his bookmaking career in the cheap side at his local greyhound stadium, Romford. He was always a loud, jovial man of the people who gave you a fair bet. He tried for years to progress over to the main ring to no avail then he turned his attention to horse racing bookmaking.

“Starting in the back rows of the cheap rings, until the buying and selling of pitches became available, Bazza soon had a go, laid out his money and succeeded in getting his name out there for taking a bet. His tussles in the ring with ‘Big Mac’ became legendary. He even had his Barry’s Bismarks on a Saturday morning on tv. The betting jungle will miss Bazza. RIP”
