Perry Barr reschedule for Saturday

There will be a delay of seven days ahead of the St Leger and Birmingham Cup finals.

A special dispensation had to be obtained from the GBGB but thankfully common sense will see the two finals delayed until next Saturday night. The ‘biblical’ conditions on Saturday beat the card despite all the hard work of the track team. Hopefully, there will be conditions more conducive to racing when the action restarts.

Racing Manager Martin Seal is hopeful that as many of the supporting Category Three opens can be saved along with the two big finals.

Joe’s Nottingham Tips

***7.27 Nottingham – Bockos Thunder (4/5)
**8.36 Nottingham – Wolf Gold (4/1)
*9.28 Nottingham – Catunda Ciaran (11/10)

The open races as usual kick off at Nottingham this evening with two finals on the card. One for the ladies and one for the gents as well as two heats of a sprint competition. Plus, Bockos Thunder is seen over 500m in a standard.

The Nap of the evening is Bockos Thunder from trap five in the Arena Racing Company Standard Trophy at 7.27 and is available to back at 4/5. He was unlucky to go out of the Birmingham Cup at the semi-final stage and this track and trip should suit him well. He has Vale Bluebell on his inside and the early pace in Links Weapon and Velvet Madrid can set the race up for Bockos Thunder. In my opinion, he should be closer to 1/2 than even money so a clear run for him should see him win.

The next best is Wolf Gold from trap two in the Arena Racing Company Standard Trophy at 8.36. He fell in a race last week but prior to that ran extremely well in a puppy competition over C&D. He was denied by Rebel Venus a length in the final from an unfavourable draw in trap five. He is better drawn this evening, with the favourite on his inside Blackboy Lizzie not having a competitive race for nearly a month. If Wolf Gold can turn in a handy position behind Blackboy Lizzie, he can swoop late and is available at 4/1.

Other fancies on the card are Catunda Ciaran in the Arc Gents standard Trophy Final at 9.28, Faithful Friend in the Arc Ladies Standard Trophy Final at 8.01, Kylenoe Bilbo and Time Counts in the heats of the 305m sprint competition at 8.54 and 9.11 and Amazing Hulk in the Arc Maximum Of One Trophy at 9.46.

Four in a row for Jess

Dave Lee’s star keeps adding to an already sensational tally.

The last two wins for Laughil Jess have only been by narrow margins but she gets herself into that winning position so well. The consistency of trapping and her sectionals have long impressed, adding win number 33 to her resume last night. That was in race number 51, a 65% strike rate! Lee would score with Dal Flash as well.

Her 33.91 was not the quickest on the night over 540m , however. that honour went to the 33.78 that Ritzy Empress produced for Jim Reynolds. A 23.08 from Imonlytwink was the pick of the evening over 380m. Ricky Holloway’s February 23 whelp has won two of her three career starts. Holloway was also on target with Signet Harper, Patterdale Zorro and Coppise Fox.

Julie Luckhurst had a double on the evening courtesy of Earls Ruby and Kilmagner Flash. Other winners on the card were Whisky Bella for Craig Marston, Millbank Jojo for Jamie Kingsley and Blue Teddybear for Barry O’Sullivan.

Half a length the margin in the race of the day.

Barntick Bear vs Droopys Extragud at Towcester had looked the best contest of Sunday on paper.

While a look at the result of the 4.07 yesterday shows Droopys Extragud beat Barntick Bear half a length, it doesn’t come close to telling the story. A 28.99 (+10) from the winner was a very smart run. Heather Dimmock’s youngster has already made a string of competition finals in 2024, showing himself once more to be a class act.

Barntick Bear was slow to stride, found trouble but when in the clear, he began to motor. The ground that he made up from the second bend was immense, losing nothing in defeat from the position that he was in.

Patrick Janssens had better luck with Not So Slow with a slick 15.52, running riot in a sprint by more than seven lengths. It was a good afternoon for Mark Wallis with a treble on the card. The first was Proper Heiress who was on her UK debut. Gun Slinger and Newinn Cloud were also on target.
