Produce Stakes second round

7.53 Swindon – Bang On Edith

The second round of the Produce Stakes takes place this evening with three from each heat looking to qualify for next weeks semi-final.

Heat one at 7.53 is difficult to look past Bang On Edith from trap two. She was impressive last week when beating Loose Cannon by four lengths and also Keefill Goose by just under five lengths who re-opposes this evening. A similar break to last week will see Bang On Edith dominate with Keefill Goose and Cassidy making up the other qualifying positions.

In heat two I am going to be with Romeo Jackson who has every chance to lead here and make all. He was beaten at 30/100 on last week in the opening round but should have the pace to clear Coppice Ella on his outside. She can qualify in second with the strong running Romeo Crossfire also qualifying back in third, but I fancy Romeo Jackson to dominate from an early stage.

Heat three at 8.28 is a wide open affair. I am hoping Coppice Ronnie can win the early battle to take the field along and this week, hold on. He led last week only to be beaten a neck by Keefill Rocky who lines up in trap three in this race and history could repeat itself. I’m going to be with Coppice Ronnie to lead and make all with Keefill Rocky and Southfield Petal qualifying in behind.

The final second round heat at 8.44 gives Romeo Cypher a chance to go one better than last week when second to Coppice Ella. He flew out the traps to lead before the strong runner reeled him in late on. There wouldn’t be a runner as strong as Coppice Ella chasing him home this evening and a big enough lead can see him hold on from Union Rebel and litter brother Romeo Crusade

At Hove, Hotel Whisky should get off the mark over six bends by landing the Coral Summertime 695 Maiden Stayers at 6.59. All About Magic can follow up last week’s heat success to win the Coral 500 Maiden Trophy Final at 8.07 and Candolim Monsoon can get back to winning ways by taking the Coral 515 Trophy Final at 8.24.

East Anglian Derby 1st round review

Druids Say Go is away and gone to set the standard while the ante post favourite exits.

Patrick Janssens’s bitch is Joe’s headline tip for the event and she was clinical in her execution. Her 27.55 win time was a length and half quicker than any other heat winner. Pall Mall finalist Wrighty chased her home for John Mullins with Getup Me Son for Carol Weatherall also qualifying,

Two of the top three in the ante post market clashed in the opening heat. Billed as a clash between Belinda Green’s Gary The Arb and Carl Jackson’s Lion Heart, it was the former’s kennel mate Beaming Panther who won the day in 27.67. The two big guns got through behind him.

That was not the case for the market leader Antigua Eagle. Fresh off a runner-up effort in the Ladbrokes Gold Cup at Monmore, he found trouble and missed out by a short head. Romeo Steel also exited in the surprise heat of the night, won by Bombay Zero in 27.98 for Paul Young. Nowhere to Go (Sally Johnson) and Ballymac John (Mark Wallis) chased him home.

Heat four was the closest finish of the evening as Swift Depot for John Mullins just got the better of Millbank Boiler for Gemma Evans. The pair pulled well clear of Newinn Sharkey in third for Carol Weatherall, the winner stopping the clock in 27.74.

The biggest shock came in the final heat where Whiskey Eagle landed the money at 33/1 for Craig Marston. Vis A Vis chased home the 27.97 winner at 14/1 for Jason Bloomfield, producing a £280 forecast. Bramble Linton qualified in third for Steve Anderson.

Murrow Inkosi was the other winner on the night in 28.00. The local dog trained by Colin Fitch picked up long time leader Trumpers Bobcat for Kevin Cobbold in heat two. Bombay The Joker made it three through to the semis for John Mullins behind those.

Hove trials tonight

Plenty of Kings and Queens in action before racing at Hove tonight.

King Memphis and Queen Joni will keep ticking over with sprint trials at the venue this evening. This is the third week that the pair have had a sprint at Hove giving the locals a classy start to an evening of open race action.

Monmore charity evening tonight

Tonight is a charity meeting to raise funds for Leukaemia UK and Ava Cawthorn.

Ava’s older sister Grace was a BBC young reporter winner last year, producing a short film about greyhound racing. One of the things that Grace mentions in the film is that the greyhound community are so supportive and hopefully there will be a big crowd at Monmore tonight proving exactly that.
