Three in a row for Tuono Charlie as he once more proved far too good for his field at Tralee. He equalled his track record in the €7,000 MCP Group 750 Final. The 2023 Corn Cuchulainn and Irish Cambridgeshire winner Kinturk Road was second but she was no match. That made it 13 wins on the trot for the classy stayer and 16 from his last 17 starts.

The peak performance in the opening round of the Time Juvenile Derby came from Callaway Knegare. Out of a half-sister to the likes of Droopys Buick, Droopys Addition and Roman Empire, he is bred to be top class.

Broadstrand Syd was right back to his best in the Bar One sprint semi-finals. He nudged his own track record last week and is the favourite for the decider which comes up at Dundalk on Thursday evening.

The other major final coming up in Ireland this week is the Willwego.com Irish St Leger. Ventry Faith was a little bit of a surprise fastest qualifier for the final but there was no doubt that he deserved it. A litter brother to both Wicky Ned and the Tralee 550y track record holder Dashing Toro, he has the pedigree to kick on.

Four dogs have now dipped under 28 seconds at Curraheen Park over 525 yards in 2024 with Rebel Mars adding his name on Saturday. Still a puppy in just his third career start, it will be interesting to see if he is able to back that up in his next race.

Only two dogs have gone quicker over Killarney’s 525y trip this year than Cheque For Sir did last week. He is only seven weeks away from gaining veteran status so it has to go down as an even more remarkable run.
