Romford notes for tonight

7.11 – Knockbann Daisy attempts a six-timer from A4-OR (4/7 Coral)

7.27 – Tullymurry Dylan is going for a five-timer all in OR Sprints (7/4 Coral)

8.36 – Droopys Pamela tries for a five-timer having won four A1s on the spin (11/8 Coral)

We have three impressive unbeaten runs being put on the line at the Essex venue this evening.

7.11 sees Knockbann Daisy defending a five-timer having gone through the grades from A4 to A1 in a month. She lines up in the Retired Greyhounds Love Sofas Maiden from trap three.

Tullymurry Dylan is four unbeaten in Open Race Sprint company with some generous prices available over the four weeks. Starting prices of 10/1, 7/2, 15/8 and 5/2 would have heavily lined the pockets of supporters. He can make it five on the bounce tonight at 7.27

It’s hard to bet against a bitch in form and that’s the case for Droopys Pamela who has won four A1s in a row.

She is trying to convert top-grade form into open race company now where one of her better breaks could see her in front heading into the bend. If Droopys Pamela finds herself in front off the second bend she’s very tough to beat. Hawkfield Diego on her immediate inside is going to keep her honest though in the 8.36.

Joe’s Romford Picks

Main selections from this evening’s card include Romeo Cypher in the 400m standard at 7.44. He ran against Fratton Bark last week with Fratton Bark drawn in trap five and Romeo Cypher boxed in trap three. Romeo Cypher led Fratton Bark comfortably to the first bend before finding plenty of trouble allowing Fratton Bark a run.

If Romeo Cypher breaks and clears March On Mini on his inside, I would fancy him to lead without trouble and go on to put the race to bed.

Fabulous Sonique can put two odds on defeats over C&D behind her by dominating the 575 stayers from trap three at 8.19.

There shouldn’t be any issues clearing Annual Bono and Jeopardy Jasmine on her inside and if able to dictate matters from an early stage, Fabulous Sonique wouldn’t be for catching.

The Romford Friday Night 500 Standard Final at 9.11 can go the way of the strong-running Aero Convey in Trap Four.

He ran a massive race behind Romeo Crusade in the heats last week and with so much early speed in the race it could suit Aero Convey’s strong running style as long as he doesn’t get caught in any potential crowding up front so at a workmanlike price I’m happy to be with Aero Convey.

*** 7.44 Romeo Cypher (5/2 Coral)
** 8.19 Fabulous Sonique (4/6 Coral)
*9.11 Aero Convey (4/1 Coral)

Monmore Clues

Droopys Clue aims to go one better than last year when he begins preparations for a crack at the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic at Monmore tomorrow.

Runner-up to Fromposttopillar in one of the best races of 2023, Seamus Cahill’s dog runs over 630m in a division of the six-bend contests on a stunning card at the Wolverhampton venue which counts down to the Summer Stayers Classic and Ladbrokes Gold Cup.

Both events start on Saturday week, with the semi-finals and finals across the following two Saturdays – with a gala card planned on Saturday, August 24.

That comes two days before the £12,500 JenningsBet Select Stakes at Nottingham on Bank Holiday Monday, August 26, which is another option for Droopys Clue should Monmore not go to plan.

The four-day rule would preclude a shot at both for the Monmore finalists.

Hove Thursday Review

25/1 and 20/1 shocks in the Thursday night opens.

Gingers Shelby was the outsider of the field in the strongest race of the night. A litter brother to Silver Salver winner Magical Bluebear, it was his early pace and first bend bravery that won him the day. Sussex Cup runner-up Wasted Monday suffered early trouble but looked close enough at halfway. He could never run down Patrick Browne’s wide runner, however.

The other big shock on the night was Droopys Elk for Jamie Kingsley. He picked a good time to pull out a personal best over the 500m, well in control before halfway after some scrimmaging behind. His was the quickest 500m time of the night, a 29.36.

Missile One is a pup of huge promise for Seamus Cahill. A 28.42 winner at Tralee on his race debut in May, he went close on his Hove debut last week and made no mistake on his second start on the south coast. Clocking 29.42, he has already had a look at Nottingham with the Puppy Classic coming up at the end of the month.

There was a string of smart trialists on the track before racing. You can get the results of those trials on the link below.

Juvenile Derby start delayed a week

Shelbourne has announced a delay of a week while extra entries are sought.

Short of the 48 runners, the start date has been pushed back to August 9. If there are still not enough runners to fill the competition then it will start as a 36-dog stake. The €25,000 to the winner competition is sponsored by Time.

Five-timer at Doncaster

We received an email this week extolling the virtues of Trappers Sky.

She has won her last five races in a row, a B5, B4, B3 and a pair of B2 contests. There was limited promise in her races at Sunderland but since arriving at Doncaster she has taken off. She is in the care of Kenneth Everett at the Stainforth track and is clearly enjoying her time there.

Assistant Racing Manager Craig Day told us “She started life in B5 and won well on debut from trap two. The switch to the middle has been the making of her I’d say. She’s got great early pace and keeps finding a way to win. She’ll be B1 next run but she’s running at the top of her game and you’d struggle to find many greyhounds on the track to lead her. She’s a likeable greyhound with a will to win. Kenny and Janine have done a great job with her.”

While we might not be able to mention every dog that is running up a graded sequence, we welcome this sort of correspondence. If there is a local grader at your track that has been flying and deserves some recognition then please get in touch and we will try to give as many a shout-out as we can.
