43 for Golden Sprint

The Romford racing office were forced to disappoint the connections of seven runners with the £10,000 Coral Golden Sprint oversubscribed.

Racing Manager Mark Arkell said: “There were a few tough decisions with several who were left out that you could make a case for. There is also an imbalance in the seeding which isn’t ideal, 20 railers, 12 middles and just 4 wide seeds.”

Last year’s winning trainer Patrick Janssens (Droopys Good) sends out a powerful team to defend the title headed by Druids Say Go and Yahoo Megan. David Mullins will have litters brothers Romeo Crusade (Puppy Cup) and Romeo Cypher (British Bred Puppy Derby). There will also be plenty of interest in the return following season of the 2023 Irish Oaks winner Crafty Shivoo.”

Clue and Memphis feature at Hove

It is awards weekend and Hove have lined up a top class card on Saturday featuring some of the most high profile names in the sport.

Greyhound of the Year contender Droopys Clue makes his reappearance in a high quality event that features Olympic third, King Combs. Meanwhile the Olympic winner and joint ante post Derby favourite KIng Memphis also contests his first race of the year up against Steel City Cup winner Swift Iconic. Grand National winner Coppice Fox goes in the Cearns Memorial. Produce Stakes winner Queen Joni also makes a first appearance since landing the British Bred Derby at Sheffield.

On the downside, given the prize money at stake and quality of venue, it is perhaps slightly disappointing that only nine of the opens filled – six vacant traps – with no stayers race.
