Callum Field-Mullins previews a high quality 13 open race at Hove this evening and selects four for the notebook (beneath the form below).
Callum writes: “It’s good to get back to writing, but even more so hopefully picking some winners for a packed Hove Thursday card. With three major events due to be staged next month, we can expect to see a growing number of star attractions finding their way to the south coast in the coming weeks. Tonight, we also see the return of our beloved staying superstar Space Jet at 8:17, and wearing the orange jacket for the the first time in her career.
Eire Buckle has been bang in form since making his English debut going 3/3 will it be 4/4 tonight? The Rees kennels also have Whats Up Eva bidding to make a 5 timer in her own “Hove RPGTV Greyhound Of The Year 2022” race at 7:56. Now drawn beside an empty box, she looks set for catching yet again.
Making their Hove debut tomorrow however, is Patrick Jannsens Hawkfield Mia, 2 trials have followed her most recent win on the Kings Coronation Open Meeting at Romford, some I’m sure may be gutted to not see her line up at Romford again in her traditional 400s but new challenges are set, she lines up in Trap 4 at 9:28.
As always though, some digging has amounted to some hopeful and well valued winners.
To kickstart is a Monmore raider in the shape of the Richie Taberner owned and trained Crossfield Larry. Larry travels without a look, but the long run to the bend certainly will suit him, having 17 wins from 46 races. He has an eye catching 15.26 in his recent D1 appearance followed with an open win the following week. That should put him in good stead to hold his own in this experienced field. Despite uncertainty of how well he flies from the 285 boxes, he’ll definitely have space on the inside and on the homestraight to run on if a missed break looms, but that’s far from an issue.
Boasting impressive trial times for the 500mH, I’m hopeful that Behopefull will have an easier first bend than last week. He was always in pursuit of the impressive Mullins hurdler Crafty San Diego who equally has, like Behopefull posted times below ‘thirty dead’, (being beaten 1 ¾ after getting bumped then checking over the back of Crafty San Diego). Nandad seems to be the main danger to him after winning his trial stake last Thursday, but jumped very high. If Behopefull breaks level or a little bit ahead or behind Tony Taylor’s, Nandad, we might expect Behopefull’s hurdling ability to prove the better, and thus make ground and time on the Taylor’s railer.
I’ve been nothing but impressed with Kerrs Tango, a very well bred Oct ‘21’ pup out of Pestana out of Droopys Dance; the dam is throwing a high percentage of high grade and open race runners. Tango is no exception, adding consistency to his form with the newcomer only finishing out of the top two once in nine starts. Tony Taylor’s wide runner in six did find bother last week when having his path blocked by Pale Mountain and even still leaving a bit in the boxes. Definitely a pup to keep a look out for when going further into hopefully his long and prosperous career! The competitive 500 Maiden Trophy Final also has obvious interest for Wasted Monday in two, representing the more than in form Hove handler Belinda Green.
Ayle Blake can hopefully make a winning return to the open race scene after roughly two months off. A solo on the 3rd of June saw him fly round in 16.50, followed by an open in which he found trouble. Dropping to D1 company, he almost replicated his solo 11 days prior in 16.49 and is more attractively drawn in three for what seems to be the hottest sprint of the night. If the Golden Sprint Finalist can find himself a fast break and a line to hold, he can keep fast approaching rivals Molly Maid (T2) and Hawfield Mia (T4) at bay into the turn. A sprint contest that will be hard to price, as a case can be made for all runners, but in Blake we trust.
