The trainer said: “We wanted the dog to go out at on a high and he was unlucky at Sunderland in the big final.
“He’s torn both gracilis muscles and had several other injuries but has been a great servant and deserves a long and happy retirement.”
Romeo Fantastico was a trap to line winner of the £1,500 McKenna Family 50th Anniversary Stayers Trophy over 590 metres.
Jimmy Wright’s runner blasted clear from traps and was always holding a comfortable lead. He eventually beat Toottoottootsie by a length and a half in 35.86sec.
A kennel spokesman said: “The going was heavy in the heats but the fast ground suited him better here.
“He was an A7 dog when he came and has improved with every race.”
My Queen was a shock 8-1 winner of the First Choice Security Puppy Stakes over 435 metres.
Yvonne Bell’s runner was soon clear and went on to beat Run Teddy Run by a length in 25.87sec.
Bell said afterwards: “My Queen was bought at the sales here and went through the grades at Sunderland for Glen Lynas. He put her up for sale and we bought her.
“We’ll put her forward for the BAGS Track Championship representing Sunderland.”
Molies Reggie was a trap to line winner of the Winning Lines British Bred Trophy over 435 metres.
Stuart Ray’s runner came home two lengths clear of Pond Genesis in 25.43sec.
Ray said afterwards: “It’s great to have a winner at my local track. He’s usually a good starter and when he came out in front was always going to be hard to beat.”
Be Tricky was a local winner of the SR Transport Standard over 435 metres. George Carter’s runner was led to the third turn by Kildroum Glory but he swept past to score easily in 25.78sec.
Cater said afterwards: “The dog clocked the quickest time of the year in 2014 here when he flew out of the boxes but these days usually comes from off the pace. He’s been a great servant.”
Calzaghe Lisa set a new track record in the Total Recycling Services Marathon over 780 metres.
Ted Soppitt’s bitch led from the opening turn and went on to beat Ballistic Kid by eight lengths in 47.88sec.
Soppitt said “Carl, the owner, thought she would stay and wanted her to run in this marathon and he was proved right. She is a sister to Eden The Kid and will make a good breeding prospect in time.”
Blakefield Magic landed a gamble in the BMW Windows Trophy over 590 metres.
Charlie Lynch’s runner, backed from 6-4 to 4-5, trapped last but came through the field to lead off the penultimate turn and score a three and a quarter length victory over Queenies One in 35.93sec.
Droopys Alessio produced a cracking performance to land the Pinpoint Healthcare Standard over 435 metres.
Jimmy Wright’s runner was led to the third turn by Riverside Gold but swept past to score by just over two lengths in 25.36sec.
One of the winning connections said: “He normally likes to lead but showed his class by coming from off the pace to win.”
