Kilgraney Apollo became a member of the select ‘four year old maiden’ club on Thursday. Corren Price’s black, a winner of 10 races in Ireland, including a sub-29 at Waterford, landed a Monmore 480m event in a personal best of 28.36 (calc).

 

There were a couple of noteworthy performances in trials before racing at Newcastle on Friday with Ring Ben and General Sherman putting in efforts that pleased trainer Julie Bateson. On a track running 20 spots fast Ring Ben turned in an excellent 16.80, while the youngster General Sherman clocked a 16.93 and both could be in Category One action next month with the Gold Cup at Monmore a likely target for Ring Ben, with General Sherman a possible for the Puppy Classic at Nottingham.

 

Mona Wainwright has Black Limo on cruise control at present. The son of Black Hondo, who is in the top group at Sheffield, completed a hat-trick of A1 victories on Friday night when he reeled in Adamant Apolo off the final bend and ran on well to score a three-length success in 28.77 for the 500 metres
