Emma Buckley announced this afternoon that the dog she paraded to Star Sports Bookmakers English Greyhound Derby Final glory at Nottingham in 2020 Deerjet Sydney has been retired. One of the sports leading superstars ‘Sydney’ followed up his memorable Nottingham victory by reaching the final again this year at Towcester. Only a couple of weeks ago he finished runner up in the Matchbook Betting Exchange Irish St Leger Final at Limerick. The announcement comes just a couple of days after he bowed out of racing with a Winter Festival 550 appearance at Shelbourne Park. Trained superbly throughout his career by Pat Buckley for owner Kenny Glen he was the apple of the eye for Pat’s daughter Emma and today she said “The day has finally come when we hang up Sydney’s muzzle and lead ! He’s been the most incredible servant for us and has made the game so special for me ! Thanks for all the magic moments Syd…It’s now time for the couch with my forever best friend”.
