Free Falling is on the way up after a slow start to his racing days in this country judging by the way he won his first race on this side of the water at Pelaw Grange on Sunday, finding a way through traffic to deliver a late challenge that prevailed by threequarters of a length in 26.41 for the 435 metres.
A September 2012 son of Droopys Scolari and Cleenas Louise, he had signed off in Ireland with a hat-trick of victories at Drumbo, showing versatility to land a tri-distance competition (480, 503 and 526 metres) and his new owner-trainer, Trevor Jameson started trialling him in at Newcastle with a view to running him in the Pinpoint Recruitment Maiden Derby, such was his opinion of the dog.
However, things did not go quite to plan and Jameson opted to give him more time, explaining: “It just took him a long time to settle in and he didn’t run as well as I’d hoped in his trials at Newcastle. I gave up the idea of running him in the maiden derby, deciding to give him more time, and we went on a holiday.
“He seems to be much more at home with us now and is taking a lot more notice when we have him out. He should be a nice dog when he settles down.”
Jameson indicated that depending on how much Free Falling continues to progress he could be looking at Newcastle again in April, where the Jimmy Roberts Memorial Maiden would be a likely target.
