Scottish Derby winning trainer Pat Rosney continues his assessment of the Star Sports English Greyhound Derby first round as we move onto heat 19.
A good heat featuring on of Ireland’s best pups in Droopys Biker who did a flying trial. I also like Droopys Bonucci, while Danzey Exception has been a great old dog. All considered though, it is hard to oppose Droopys Bunucci 11-4 with the sponsors
Another evenly matched contest. Although he will need to avoid Knockard Spring on the run-up, it has to be Bombers Bullet (6-4 with the sponsors) for me.
Although Tyrur Harold (1-3 with the sponsors) has made a mess of the starts in his last two outings, he is a class act as shown by his 28.05 calculated run. The obvious choice.
I am a big fan of local Puppy Derby winner Magical Bale (4-7 with the sponsors). He appears to have his draw and he loves the place. Impossible to oppose.
This is virtually on par with heat eight as being the best in the Derby first round. I am a big fan of Bubbly Bluebird but he is not getting any younger and we don’t know whether he is still the dog he was. Barrie Draper’s bitch is top class. If he gets a clear run, who is going to hold off the track record holder Tyrur Shay. All things considered though, I thought Dorotas Vic (11-4 wih the sponsors) was superb in Scotland and he is my selection.
I would be thinking 3, 4 or 6 here. We know Drive On Tipp from last year, and I rate Julie Bateson’s dog if he gets away. But I would expect Droopys Davy (8-13 with the sponsors) to find several lengths on his trial run – including the sectional and he is the on to beat.
I am very happy with The Other Reg‘s (6-4 with the sponsors) preparation since Scotland and I expect him to win here. He trialled well and I would expect more improvement. The obvious danger has to be Black Farren who now looks somewhere near back to his best.
I am a big fan of Murrys Act (2-1 with the sponsors) and he is my selection here. But I do have a healthy respect for Droopys Martial based on his Swindon trials and Legal Ace is also very pacey.
