Clares Kyletaun is the new favourite for the Coral Regency following a fastest heat win and the withdrawal of original favourite Slippy Maggie (in season).
June Harvey’s black is now the 4-1 market leader after the elimination of a string of fancied contenders including Roswell Romanov, Shotgun Bullet, and Paradise Valdez.
One of only two wide seeds still in the event, the Poole 640m record breaker clocked 41.41 on going rated (-30). By way of comparison, the fastest time recorded over course and distance in 2017 was Karlow Turbo’s 41.33 on going rated (+15).
‘Kyle’, who would have been renamed Ower Boy Breeze, but for the fact that he had one previous re-name (the maximum allowed), is in the form of his life after ongoing issues with cramp. The dog, who has won opens from 450m to 930m, was unluckily eliminated from the semi finals of the Golden Crest.
Mrs Harvey said: “He was just in front at the first bend at Poole when he got taken out to the hare rail. He still led to the pick-up after the race.
“We have all worked very hard on the cramping problem, none more than physio Phil Milner, and last night there was no sign of it. Hopefully, the warmer weather will make it less likely.”
